What's In A Shade

What's In A Shade

I bought a new lipstick yesterday (as I always do whenever I see a grid. I always somehow feel compelled to adding a new shade to my 20sumthing collection) and felt a bit inspired.. or more so questioning who invented lipstick..which led to a little research of course. And so I have compiled a below some interesting link reads and excerpts...

WHAT!?

A cosmetic product of course..which give every woman who wears it that extra feel of "sophistication & sometimes sex appeal". Now and during medieval times. Back then.. the components consisted mainly of natural resources such as plants and  fruit juices, but seeing how far we've come along the science behind it is  much more extensive "meaning- waxes, pigments, emollients, textures etc has expanded".

1912: DID YOU KNOW?!

Did you know?Elizabeth Cady Santon, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and other feminists had their lips painted as a symbol of emancipation during the NYC Suffragette rally?

NOT SO "SOPHISTICATED" HUH!!?

"In Ancient Greece, lipstick fell out of fashion among high-class citizens and was instead used to identify  prostitutes. In fact, it was the law that prostitutes couldn't go out without wearing lipstick. lest they deceive men"Byrdie I guess that explains the slight or maybe more sex appeal enhancement .. right?

1923! IT ALL STARTED WITH THE TURN OF A SCREW?!

The horrible ordeal when your favourite shade goes empty and you immediately become an engineer. 1923. The year when the swivel tube we so love today was invented by Nashville resident J Bruce Mason Jr. Ladies...Say Thank you.

FINISHES! MATTE vs SHEER vs GLOSSY vs STAIN!!

I personally rather creamy finishes "A cross between matte and glossy". I love the feeling of my lips constantly moisturised and soft throughout my wears. These glide on easily, and are very everyday wearable. Matte, I only own one, and I must admit that I rather wear the suede like finish on my nights out on the town. Birchbox has a great beginners guide to Lip finishes HERE

At the end of it all one thing I can assure you is that you will def feel a bit more confident with the swipe of the tube.. try some. And if you already do.. Do You Concur? xxx
