Designing Your Workspace For Productivity

Designing Your Workspace For Productivity

workspace inspiration

With modern technology, most of the work can be done remotely. People are taking advantage of this by choosing to work from home. This decision comes with many advantages – the ability to set your own working hours, taking breaks whenever you need them, and obviously spending more time with your family. However, working from home can affect productivity because there is no office atmosphere to combat distractions.

Turning a spare room into a home office can create a productive and organized environment and prevent you from indulging in distractions during work hours. With a few design changes, you can have the comfort of your home and all the necessities of a modern office.

Color palette

Deciding on a color palette isn’t just an aesthetic choice – it can also greatly affect your productivity and mood. Choose the color according to the type of work that you do. Blues have a calming effect and should be used in an area designed for planning and strategic thinking, green will help you rest and refresh, while bright orange, yellow and red can give a place an energy boost. There’s, of course, no reason for the entire room to be in one color, just don’t go overboard and make it too distracting.

Focus areas

Try to design a home office to resemble an actual corporate office. Designate different areas for specific tasks. Create a small lounge for entertaining clients or business partners. One area should be used as a break room, which should have a more personal and casual feel to it. And in the end, your desk is your battle station, as most of the work will be done from here. Therefore, you should pay special attention to this area of your home office.

Furniture

Choosing quality furniture like home office furniture Sydney  is what really turns your home into a place of business. There are a couple of things to have in mind before deciding. People usually work longer hours at home or at least work on a different schedule. Make sure the furniture is comfortable, ergonomic, and that it allows you to work with ease. But, it should also look professional, serious, and help you show your confidence to your clients. In the end – you might need to scale down the measurements to fit your home. Leave that to the professionals – let them measure your office and plan its layout before you order any furniture.

Storage

Even with the most digitalized jobs, an office is usually filled with all sorts of papers. This isn’t that much of a problem in a corporate office, but at home, it can look messy. Having an organized working area will also make you more productive and let you focus on actual work. Open shelf cabinets are the way to go because everything remains accessible and you can easily incorporate decorative elements together with work related documents or folders. However, this setup requires you to clean the office more frequently.

Lights

The best option is to have as much natural light as you can. In this respect, home offices are vastly superior to corporate ones because they usually have much larger windows and you can move the furniture any way you like to get more sunlight. When it comes to artificial lights, make sure you have plenty of task lights as overhead lights are never enough. Place the lamps carefully to avoid glare and shadows – a general rule of thumb is that a lamp should be placed opposite the hand you write with.

Personal touches

It’s your home and a personal look is more than welcome. Don’t be shy about decorating the walls, shelves, and desks with memorabilia, your own pictures or art pieces you like. Try to blend it with the aesthetic you created, although it’s perfectly fine to be a bit quirky and show off your fun side.

Home offices are taking over because the internet allows everyone to work from home. Use this opportunity to create a more hospitable and personalized working space. It will make you more productive and more creative.

What's your go to tip for designing your home workspace?
